One of the ways that we seek to serve the community and discover the gifts that God has given us is through the performing arts. We have three different teams that gather regularly to practice and grow in deeper community.
Everyone has a story, and the theatre team is committed to telling the stories of our community. The team consists of students with a wide range of theatrical experience, but with a common goal of demonstrating the intersection between our stories and the story of God.
If you have any theatre experience, or a desire to learn more about how to express yourself and tell stories this way, this is the team for you! Please contact Jimmy (firstname.lastname@example.org).
The Black Campus Ministries gospel choir was formed at a time when the university shut down its gospel choir program in the music department. Though they have since reinstated that program, our choir serves as a relational, educational, and formational space for students to sing music in the gospel style and from the Black church tradition.
Anyone is welcome to come! We don’t have an audition process, and we are willing to work with anyone who wants to learn how to be a better singer or musician.
We practice from 4-6pm in the 6th floor lounge of Christian Hall (in Unit 1 of the dorms). If you have any questions, you can email Rae and Ani (email@example.com, firstname.lastname@example.org)
Sunday Night Live
If you want to see where all of our ministries come together, performance and otherwise, then Sunday Night Live is the place! Known to the Black community at Cal as SNL, our twice-a-semester event showcases our theatre team and gospel choir, as well as other performance artists from Cal and around the Bay Area. We also feature stories from students trying to work out what it means to follow Jesus, and a local pastor who puts it all in perspective.
Times and dates vary. For more information on how you or your group can perform at Sunday Night Live, please contact Aysia (email@example.com).
